We came across Positive Outlook Clothing online and loved them straight away. Trust me when I say they are making some really nice threads and it’s great to see a company that can express themselves so well in their clothing. Based in Coventry with a small stall and having an online store you can easily get yourself some new, great designed new clothing for 2016. We’ve been wearing some of their apparel for a week or so now. The bamboo cotton is so soft and warm and I can even say that their range of boxers are so comfortable! Here’s what they had to say themselves…

Tell us a bit about yourself…

My names Harvey Broadbent i’m 25 years old from Warwickshire. Starting off in Fine Art at A-level I moved on to University where I studied Product Design in Bournemouth surrounded by fresh air and stunning coastline. During my university experience I grew a strong interest in natural and sustainable alternatives and production methods for everyday products. In my final year I started extending my research into organic fashion and began writing a business plan for an organic clothing company under the name ‘Positive Outlook’. After finished my degree and working for a design consultancy I started putting my plans into action and at the beginning of 2013 opened the website www.positiveoutlookclothing.com with my first collection featuring 5 items made from certified organic-cotton and manufactured under ‘Fear Wear’ conditions.

I started my company because…

After discovering the high environmental impact and un-ethical nature of the fashion industry I wanted to do something about it. When searching I struggled to find a sustainable alternative for the clothing I was wearing at the time and if I did it came with a high price tag (£50 for a plain white organic cotton t-shirt). This was excluding the vast majority of shoppers and in turn failing to educate them on the issues. I knew then that I wanted to create an affordable organic alternative to high-street fashion. Most modern independent brands were focusing on dark or anti-governmental themes, I wanted to create a brand that would spread a positive message about life and the world we lived in.

I got inspiration from…

My ‘Positive Outlook’ on life comes from the people around me. My parents and family have always been incredible supportive pushing me to seek and see the best in everything, this has then been shared and grown stronger with friends and colleagues. I have always had a strong belief in growing together so I have always tried to help and except help from others in all situations and take every opportunity that comes my way. The actual styling and physical appearance of the brand comes from a strong connection with nature and love of minimal design.

It’s different to other clothing companies because…

I think what makes us different is the level of care we put into every aspect of the brand. We strive to reduce the environmental impact in every stage of production. We select materials such as Bamboo and Eucalyptus not just for there lower carbon footprint but also for benefits of the wearer, such as the silk like softness and moisture absorbing. This care has even been reflected in our first physical store in Fargo Village, Coventry where the interior has been build by hand by my father and I using entirely recycled materials all sourced from the local area.

When I was a kid I wanted to be…

When I was a kid I’m pretty sure all I wanted to be was a dinosaur, I was pretty obsessed my bedroom was covered in them even the wallpaper 🙂

In 5 years time I hope Positive Outlook Clothing will be…

In 5 years time I hope we will be spreading a ‘Positive Outlook’ all over the world.

If I could do a T Shirt design for anyone it would be…

I have often been asked if I could have one person wear our clothing who would it be. I’d have to say David Beckham, the main reason being that he is just a nice guy, his public image is so positive and is loved by every gender and all walks of life. He’s excelled in his field of football but then took this fame so much further opening sports schools, promoting charities and doing so much for others in general.

Thanks to Harvey from Positive Outlook Clothing for taking the time to talk to us.
